Shiloh Battle Video – The Battle Starts
The Shiloh Reenactment had some spectacular action as 8,000 reenactor soldiers clashed in the rolling fields of western Tennessee. Day 1 of the battle portrayed the Confederate attack and their success in pushing Federal lines back toward the Tennessee River.
The video below shows some highlights from the start of the battle. As the Confederates pushed forward, Union troops kept falling back and setting up new positions. You will notice large lines of Federal troops in blue moving back as they portray the Union fallback. The massive Confederate assault led to a Federal collapse on the left and right flanks. One part of the Federal line held firm – the middle of the line. This part of the line had a lot of Iowa farm boys holding firm. Their valiant struggle is known as the Hornet’s Nest. I will share that story and show video of that part of the reenactment in another blog post. In the mean time, click below to see the Start of the Battle.
