Corydon, Iowa – Thunder in the Woods

This past weekend I attended Thunder in the Woods at Corydon, Iowa.  The weather was perfect.  And the location was ideal for a Civil War reenactment.  I was able to get some interesting photos… meet General Grant (above).

The living history event took place in the woods of Corydon Lake Park.  The rolling hills allowed spectators to get lost in the 1860’s.  For a few hours there were no modern interruptions…

… just lots of folks in old-timey outfits.  The event made a point to honor the Irish.  Waves of Irish came to this country prior to the Civil War looking for a new life.   Thousands of these hardy men ended up in the Federal and Confederate armies.  And as fate would have it, the brave lads from Ireland would meet one another on the field of battle on a number of occasions.
